In the midst of the turmoil and chaos of the COVID-19 pandemic, two supplements have raised their heads as champions of the people - vitamin C and zinc. Statistics show that the sale of foods containing these nutrients has seen a huge boost in recent times. But what makes these two nutrients so effective? Do vitamin C and zinc truly help in the prevention of coronavirus infection? Let’s take a look and find out.
Both Vitamin C and zinc are known for their immunity boosting properties. We know that regular intake increases your body’s ability to fight against pathogens and protect you from infection.

So what about vitamin C?
Vitamin C is famously known as an immune system booster. It promotes growth of white blood cells(WBCs) containing antibodies. These WBCs attack foreign substances that invade the body and try to affect it. It’s also known to improve the activity of phagocytes capable of swallowing harmful pathogens. And finally, this vitamin C has antioxidant properties that help in reducing and preventing inflammation which is a result of weak immune function.

What about Zinc?
Zinc is an essential micronutrient that helps in cell growth and its survival. It acts as a messenger for the immune system. Not only that, it functions as an intracellular signal molecule for the body’s defence cells. It also reduces the level of cytokines - chemicals that are harmful to the body. In addition, Zinc helps in boosting production of infection fighting cells like WBCs.
As we know, a good immune system means a stronger and healthier body. And Zinc and Vitamin C both support the immune system in multiple ways.

So what are you waiting for?
It’s time to supplement your immune system with Zinc and Vitamin C.
